The book "Stability of Structures: Buckling and Postbuckling" composed by Dr. Seyed Amir Mahdi Ghannadpour, associate professor of the Faculty of New Technologies and Aerospace Engineering of Shahid Beheshti University, and Mahdi Shakeri has been published recently by SBU Press in 266 pages.
This work, which is a brief and useful summary of the arguments and concepts of structural stability that lie behind the formulas and standards written with the aim of strengthening the lines of communication between the analyst and the designer, makes the designer obtain the necessary information in facing buckling problems and have the ability to predict buckling problems in his/her structural designs by studying and understanding the relevant background. One of the main goals of the book is also to acquaint postgraduate students of mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering with the world of structural stability, so that they can learn the basic concepts in buckling and postbuckling of columns and plates and can have the ability to solve advanced problems of structural stability and behavior analysis.
The first chapter of the book is dedicated to explaining the concept of balance and stability and introducing the phenomenon of buckling. This chapter discusses the basic concepts for understanding the issues as well as the prerequisites for examining the concepts of stability. The second chapter investigates the buckling of columns in different perspectives and with different boundary conditions. It uses various approaches and criteria to examine the buckling of columns. The next chapter explains the buckling and post-buckling of plates with different approaches, and in addition to deriving and solving equilibrium and stability equations, presents estimation methods for solving problems. The final chapter presents and solves new and advanced non-linear problems of plates by different numerical and semi-analytical methods. One of the goals of this chapter is to provide combined solutions to solve stability problems and create a clear mindset to solve new problems. This book also presents examples and basic problems so that students familiarize themselves with the basic and preliminary concepts of the stability of structures, and learn the steps of solving problems and analyze and answer them themselves.
